The other day, I was doing research for an upcoming seminar and I came across a book published in 1845 by Wiley and Putam titled, Emigrants's Guide.  This book provides advice and instruction to those who are coming to America.  In those days, voyage to America was by ship.  During their journey, many people would get afraid during a storm.  In order to prepare those that were embarking on this long journey, Wiley and Putnam advised them "never be alarmed until the Captain is." In other words, if the Captain of the ship is not afraid then there is no need for the travelers to be fearful.

I believe this is a wonderful advice for us.  In storms of anxiety, of life's problems, of tension, of uncertainty and sorrow of our life, are we not like those passengers?  When we come to some cross-roads and do not know which way to take, are we not like those passengers?  When we think about our unknown future, are we not like those passengers?  Jesus is the Captain of our life.  In the wildest storms of life, we do not see Jesus being alarmed.  Rather, we see him as calm and fearless.  So my dear reader, why should you be worried?  Look at the face of our Captain and be encouraged.  And remember, "NEVER BE
